COMMONWEALTH GAMES CANADA ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL DELHI 2010 MISSION STAFF

OTTAWA, April 21, 2010 – Bringing a wealth of world-class expertise and experience, three additional Mission Staff members have been named to Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC)’s team for the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi, India, October 3-14, 2010.

Dr. Trent Stellingwerff (Lausanne, Switzerland) and Sherry Doiron (Fredericton, NB) join the Coaching and Applied Sport Science team, directed by Dr. Jon Kolb. Dr. Stellingwerff will provide guidance in athlete nutrition, while Doiron will work in Coach Support, Technical and Logistics.

Mike Davis (Ottawa, ON) joins the Communications and Media Services Team, under the direction of Commonwealth Games Canada Press Chief for Delhi, Jackie DeSouza.

“This is an incredible collection of experienced and highly-motivated professionals who will help create the conditions for best-ever performances and podium results by Canadian athletes in October,” said Martha Deacon, Chef de Mission for Team Canada 2010. “That’s the goal of Team Canada at these Games.”

The Games will feature more than 4,000 world-class athletes from 71 Commonwealth nations and territories, competing in 17 different sports. Canada, which finished third overall at the 2006 Games in Melbourne, Australia, will send a highly competitive team of approximately 400 athletes, coaches, and volunteers.

The Canadian contingent to Delhi is led by Commonwealth Games Canada Director of Sport, Scott Stevenson (Orléans, ON) and Chef de Mission, Martha Deacon (Oakville, ON).

The Health and Wellbeing (Medical) team will be announced in the coming weeks.
